Alu-Gard vs. Invisi Gard Security Doors in Perth
Invisgard vs Alugard? Which is better and what is the difference in price? For those of you looking for a modern security screen door solution, Alu Guard and Invisiguard are two excellent options. We are often asked what is the difference between the two lattice types. This post will outline some of the key differences and similarities between the two types of security screen door mesh solutions, so that you can choose the right one for you, and finally we will look at the price difference between the two door options.
some similarities
Invisigard and Alu Gard are both manufactured and distributed through Alspec Aluminium. Alspec is an Australian owned manufacturer of high quality aluminum products for the commercial and residential markets.
Let’s look at each door individually and find out the differences.
Material
Alu guard mesh is made from a solid perforated aluminum sheet. As the first picture shows, the holes are round. According to the Alspec website, the mesh is made of 1.6 mm thick sheet with a 2 mm hole through it. The overall mesh openness is 40%. Forged meets Australian Standard AS5041 – 2003 for knife shear test, dynamic impact test and jammy test. Mesh color is matte black
Invisi Gard Mesh is made by Meshtec – a global leader in the manufacture of high tensile stainless steel products. The trap itself is fabricated from 316 marine-grade stainless steel, providing the appearance of a more traditional fly trap as seen in the first photo above. Stainless steel is stronger than aluminum, making mesh a solution for premium security options.
While both aluminum and 316 marine grade stainless steel have excellent corrosion properties, it is notable that the Invisi Guard Door also carries a 15 year warranty, compared to the Alu Guards 7 year warranty. While this is a notable manufacturer warranty difference, in our experience both doors will probably far exceed these warranties protecting your family for decades.
Frame
Both lattice types are mounted within an extruded aluminum frame. However the Invisi Guard has a specific frame that is required to be used under license. The frame design of the Invisi Guard ensures that it maintains strength, durability and style.
The Alu Guard is manufactured in an extruded aluminum frame and does not need to be built into a specific frame. This means that the style, durability and strength of a finished door can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Fixing method
This is the key difference in the construction of the two types of doors. Aluminum and stainless steel are reactive and create a galvanic reaction when placed against each other. A galvanic reaction is one where one metal will corrode another metal faster than normal. Because of this the Invisi Gard system is secured using its patented EPG fixing method. This patented method of retention does not rely on screws or other forms of mechanical retention to avoid any potential galvanic reaction.
This type of galvanic reaction is not a concern for the Alu Guard door system as both the mesh and the frame are made of the same metal – aluminium. Usually the door can be riveted or screw clamped with an aluminum wedge strip.
This fixing system means that the Invisi Guard door will look more streamlined without rivets or screws, creating a premium and stylish-looking door.
Lock
Invisi Gard doors are marketed and manufactured under license as security screen doors and as such come standard with triple locks. A triple lock or three (3) point lock means that the door locks in three places – in the middle, top and bottom.
Alu guard door security on the other hand can be manufactured with a single lock removing the door to the door position. As with triple locks, the quality of the locks used will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
visibility and airflow
While both mesh options provide good visibility and airflow, there is no doubt that the Invisi Guard security screen door offers greater visibility. Airflow is good enough for both, but the Invisi Guard has slightly more openings and is therefore better for airflow as well.
Invisigard vs Alu Gard – Conclusion
Both the Alu Guard Security Screen Door and the Invisi Guard Security Screen Door provide great solutions for security and airflow for your home. If manufactured correctly and to standards, both options for security screen doors exceed Australian Standard AS5041 – 2003.
Probably the defining difference between the two options is the 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh and the licensing requirements required to manufacture the Invisi Guard doors. With these stringent licensing requirements in mind, customers can be assured that the gates will be built to the highest standards. This will ensure a great-looking door that will keep looking good for decades and keep your family safe.
